Indira Castellón

Light is my primary medium, the origin of everything, the creator of life, and the source of color. After years of exploring the intricate relationship between light and darkness, my journey continues in the pursuit and exploration of color. I find joy in manipulating light and paying homage to it.

Indira Castellón's (b. 1980, Guadalajara, Mexico) artistic journey began at the tender age of six, revealing from the outset a profound and distinctive relationship with color as a means of expression. Her formal training commenced at the School of Visual Arts at the University of Guadalajara, where she explored various techniques and materials, ultimately developing her unique style and visual language.

Her early career saw participation in several group exhibitions, leading up to her first solo show in 1999, titled "Alimento del alma" ("Food for the Soul"). Following her graduation, she deepened her practice under the mentorship of distinguished Jalisco-based artists, expanding her repertoire to include sculpture and sacred art.

In her hometown of Guadalajara, Castellón engaged in numerous workshops and solo exhibitions, most notably "Color luz, Color pigmento" ("Color Light, Color Pigment"), marking the beginning of her enduring romance with color.

Her international debut came in 2004 in Hamburg, where she held two solo exhibitions: "Celebración de las luces"("Celebration of Lights") in 2007, and "Almas desnudas" ("Naked Souls") in 2009. In 2012, she was awarded the prestigious "Salón de Octubre" for her piece "Después de la ceremonia" ("After the Ceremony"), solidifying her status as a key figure in the contemporary art scene of Jalisco.

With more than ten solo exhibitions and countless group shows, Indira Castellón has emerged as a pictorial icon of her generation, not only in Jalisco but throughout Mexico and Latin America. Her most extensive collection resides in Spain, with works also held in various parts of the world, including the United States, Germany, Greece, and Taiwan.
