Artist Statement:
In the framework of Modernity, there operates an insatiable drive for human development as a species. This is evident in the relentless need for continuous growth, both on an individual and collective level, represented by a spiral of material production whose origins and endpoints are difficult to discern. Across all facets of society, technology exerts a pervasive influence, shaping daily activities, industries, and jeopardizing the balance of natural resources.
The surplus production generated at unprecedented speeds creates an illusion of abundance and immediacy: everything we need seems to be within reach, every day of the year, at any time, and in any place. Yet, what this seemingly endless spiral conceals is that life itself is consumed in an excess with no viable alternatives. There is little awareness of the earth as a place with finite resources. Instead, we persist in treating the world as an environment of unlimited raw materials and goods.
Even the occasional glimpse of lucid thought about this reality lacks the strength to alter our condition of being subsumed by modernity. This work confronts that tension, inviting viewers to reflect on the fragility of our existence within a cycle of overproduction and the tenuous relationship between progress and sustainability.
